boa12
just got the velo hgs-18 back from the shop, but this has me stumped. when switching inputs or settings on the marantz sr-8000 receiver, or channels on the connected digital cable box, my sub is getting a huge pop, jolt of current or voltage that of course shacks my innards & can't be good for the sub. i have the sub connected only by a single line interconnect cable to the marantz sub out. i've tryed disconnecting all inputs to the marantz except the sub connection. the only way i don't get it is turning the sub off or of course disconnecting it. so i think that isolates it to the marantz/sub out, the electric supply, or the cable to the sub (also did this before w/ the loaner sub). just wondered if anyone else has had this & there might be that fabled quick fix. otherwise i'll keep on looking caus it's intolerable. it's always something. ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! T2K
Boa, my Bose Wave radio I just got at Circuit City does not have any of those on or off pops.I highly discourage you to buy one. Keith
boa12
k, did u really get one of those? haven't heard 1 but read they're simply amazing. may be the only good thing bose makes(?) but i can put up w/ a few thunderous pops (for now) because of what's in between 'em. boa12
an fyi in case someone else has this prob.: talked to dave @ marantz tech support & he feels that my barely 3 mo. old sr-8000's sub out mute while switching or "make before break" switch is defective. don't u hate it when after spending 'bout an hour hooking it all up u have to take an amp/receiver back into the dealer/shop. ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! HornEd
Boa, sorry you have been "constricted" again in your HT enjoyment. I feel your and wish you a speedy re-Marantz-ary! Keep a stiff upper bass management... and, go to a movie and get a new reminder why we do all this! HornEd
boa12
thanks ed! i'll keep at 'em. the velo-18 is again rocking the joint in between the pops. u know that feel - congrats on those ultras!
Pete C
I got a Wave radio years ago and it has had absolutely no trouble. Of course, it sounds barely adequate, though passable, with classical music and garbled garbage with rock. Bose saved lots of money by not having a tone control, but didn't pass on the savings. Sorry about the Velo trouble, but it sounds like it is the Marantz. Time for a swap test with another receiver, like dragging the old Sony over, just to see if it pops. boa12
yea pete, it was the marantz. swapped me another new one w/ a 3 mo. extension on the 3 yr. warranty. sounds great. pop eliminated. still waiting on the hgs to return for the 2nd time. boomer9911
Boa, say it isn't sooooo....Marantz...UGH! glad your problem is solved, as a fellow Marantzer hate to see problems with them on the board. As for Bose radio's ask JimC about them, I pondred the idea but never took the leap.
boa12
boom, may have not been the marantz's fault - possible power spike as see another receiver make w/ same problem from lightning strike. at least marantz does have the 3 yr. warranty & that now starts 7/23/01 on this new unit that's working great (fingers crossed).
