Klipsch-daddy
I was wondering something, i am doing something wrong or is it the sub.. i have a ksw-12 and a kenwood 4080b receiver. it seems like it is loosing sound during long "blow up scene's" like the on in matrix when the heli. hits the glass building. it starts out and then dies and then it comes back at the end. i used to have a sony rack system with a 10 sub woofer. during the whole scene it was rocking and shaking picture frames... whats up.. this receiver was hard as hell to even get the bass to come out the the theater modes... please help.. ------------------ My HTS: KSB 3.1 FRONTS QUINTETS REAR KSW-12 PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" KENWOOD VR-4080B SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER

boa12
k-daddy, almost don't wanna ask , but how do you have it connected? settings? & is it popping, rattling, bottoming out during the bassy scenes? ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! Klipsch-daddy
I dont believe it is bottom'in out. i have my bass on the receiver set to 4 it goes to 10. sub volume on reciever is set to 10. actual volume on sub is set on 9 out of 11. crossover is set around 50 hz. i also had to set the phase switch to 180. hope this helps. thanks ------------------ My HTS: MAINS: KSB 3.1 CENTER: KSC-C1 REAR: WHITE QUINTETS SUB: KSW-12 TV: TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" RECEIVER:KENWOOD VR-4080B DVD: SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER FOR SALE PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR (105.00)
boa12
k-daddy, those are pretty high bass settings & i hope that's not 10 outa 10 on the receiver volume if u have the sub connected line level from the sub out to the line in, u wanna have a Y to both line ins of the ksw. if u have that connection u need to move the crossover on the ksw way up as you're cutting LFE at 50hz & LFE can go all the way up to 120hz. see "ksw setup ?" under your thread in this section or other detailed discussions on the ksw elsewhere for tips on connecting/setting up the ksw-12. Klipsch-daddy
Thanks boa12, i was told that the sub needs to be set just over where the cutoff for the fronts are. my ksb 3.1 are suspose to go down to 49hz. the level on the receiver is set to plus10 for the sub. i never listen to the actual voulme of the reciever over 39-40. which is 60-75% voulme. ------------------ My HTS: MAINS: KSB 3.1 CENTER: KSC-C1 REAR: WHITE QUINTETS SUB: KSW-12 TV: TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" RECEIVER:KENWOOD VR-4080B DVD: SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER FOR SALE PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR (105.00)
Klipsch-daddy
Boa12, after reading some of the articles from what i read, they are saying to set the crossover to 120 on the sub. but want this make it sound to much like a speaker and not a sub. i have set it to that before (with another receiver sony str se-545 and there were to may voices comming out).... oh what to do. ------------------ My HTS: MAINS: KSB 3.1 CENTER: KSC-C1 REAR: WHITE QUINTETS SUB: KSW-12 TV: TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" RECEIVER:KENWOOD VR-4080B DVD: SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER FOR SALE PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR (105.00)
boa12
oh yea k-daddy the tribulations of bass mgmt. LFE doesn't tend to carry voices & such so that's not a real problem when u turn the crossover up to 120hz. but music & low bass like u say can be pretty directional when u get up above 80hz or so. this is what i've labeled the "bass manager's dilemma". i.e. if u set the cross too high u can get sub directionality, sloppy/muddy bass on music. if u set it too low u cut off LFE on 5.1 HT. u could try: 1) when u listen to 2 channel sources like music cd turn the cross down. when 5.1 HT sources turn it up. not prefered. 2) turn the cross on your ksw all the way to 120hz & set your fronts:small (as well as all other speakers). this lets your receiver bass mgmt filter the speakers & sub at probably 80hz. still too high for 2 channel music imho but gotta work w/ what we have. 3) get rid of the line cable & try t-man's speaker level sub hook-up as he indicated in that other thread- "ksw-12 setup ?s". ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! Klipsch-daddy
THANKS BOA12. I looked behind the tv today and the sub was set to around 70 hz. On my kenwood receiver the setting are normal none and large, I moved it normal but have yet had time to really listen to it. With it set to normal do I need to set the crossover to 120 hz.? thanks. ------------------ My HTS: MAINS: KSB 3.1 CENTER: KSC-C1 REAR: WHITE QUINTETS SUB: KSW-12 TV: TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" RECEIVER:KENWOOD VR-4080B DVD: SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER FOR SALE PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR (105.00)
boa12
i'm still assuming u have the ksw connected only by line level (hopefully to both L&R line ins) from the ken's sub out jack, but yea turn that ksw all the way to 120 so u don't cut any LFE. w/ the fronts (& others) set normal, the ken should do the filtering for u at 80hz. should work pretty good on all material. right htexpert? ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnect & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D 5-disk cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics SL-1950 turntable/AT LS500 cartridge Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! Klipsch-daddy
boa12, I finally got the chance and turned my sub to 120 hz. i reall havent sat down and listen and watched a dvd but from what i can tell it seems like there is too much port noise.. also I tried the deal with hooking up the b channel to the sub instead of the sub output. no difference at all. Is there anything I can do to decrese the noise comming out of the port? I cant really tell a big difference betweeen normal and large on my speakers either.. Probably the dvd Matrix is not all that good to test with. Its outdated compaired to the new dts dvds out. I have t2 (dts) and me myself and irene(dts but no action) and roadtrip (dts not that much action). I am going tomorrow and looks for Independence Day I here it is dts and rocks? We will see. ------------------ My HTS: MAINS: KSB 3.1 CENTER: KSC-C1 REAR: WHITE QUINTETS SUB: KSW-12 TV: TOSHIBA THEATER VIEW 50" RECEIVER:KENWOOD VR-4080B DVD: SONY S-360 DVD PLAYER FOR SALE PINANNCLE WIDESCREEN CTR (105.00)
boa12
kd, hard to say. could be something wrong w/ the sub like a loose port/air leak. might want to call trey cannon @ 1-800-klipsch, tech support on that. or maybe u just need more woofage for that bass fix since your running your sub's level at 9 (that's pretty high. f.e., my velo hgs-18 maxes fine at 9:30(around 3) & w/ the receiver sub level at 0). & is it placed in the best position? could get more bass w/o working it as hard. Klipsch-daddy
I REALLY think it is in the best position. Do you have visio.? I have a diagram of my living room. Maybe I have the volume up to high. boa12
yea kd, u just may need another sub, if u think there's nothing tech wrong with it. or u can turn it down if u can live w/ less bass my vel will bottom out at 5 w/ some heavy LFE, like the beach scene in Private Ryan. it sounds like a physical rattle, but it's just outta control sound (distortion). sorry, no visio.
