Replacing Sub Driver - Which wire is which?

Recommended Posts

Nope, blk should be +14.gif

However binding post terminals are typically Red & Black with Red as + and blk as -, that would change to black and white on the inside of your enclosure, making white the +, unless the wire colors inside are reversed?

I guess there's no standard here.

Which makes me ponder if a Zebra is white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

look back to where the wires start. there might be a little + and - there. that is the way that it is on the crossovers in my speakers, and it is worth a look. that should tell you. I will tell you that usually black means ground (-), but there is always exceptions. in all the klipsch speakers that i have taken apart black has always been ground.

Old PA guy trick (Trey- tell us if this is advised or if it is true) We used to use this to check for polarity (phasing) when hooking up multiple sub bins for Discos.

Take a 'D' cell battery 1.5 volts only and touch the woofer wires to it with proper polarity. The woofer will 'thump' once when you touch the wire to battery. If polarity is correct, the woofer will thrust outwards (away from spider and magnet).
