Talos
Are there any plans for a future USB version of Promedia speakers? I had for a while Microsoft's USB speakers and I really liked the USB connectivity and ease of use. Before, I had to adjust my old speakers's volume and the PC volume setting all the time, but with the USB speakers I could control the bass and the equalization right from my PC, besides of having very clean sound. It was really handy. Now, I'm looking to purchase a Promedia system and it seems they don't use the USB port. Is there a USB version in the horizon? Dan F
Nothing in the forseeable future. Klipsch is looking at USB 2.0 to see if it presents an opportunity to solve some of the earlier problems that USB 1.0 and 1.1 had. Your feedback is very helpful in the meantime... ------------------ Klipsch ProMedia Customer Service # is 1-888-554-5665
justin_tx_16
i am sure the USB 2.0 will rock... but i still like the idea of having a sound card to manage teh sound... now, a sound card with USB 2.0 out would be great! ------------------ -justin http://www.fortunecity.com/campus/berry/88/
rol1
There are fire-wire set-ups as the Luna II and the 24/96DAC box at Creamware, and Yahama has a developement kit for M-lan(?) using 20 bits. Both will do 8 channels. http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/mLAN/ http://www.creamware.de/en/products/Luna2/default.asp http://www.creamware.de/en/Products/luna_box/default.asp?group=EN/PRODUCTS/LUNA2
Prana-Bindu
FireWire is still faster than USB 2.0 will be. Why hasn't it made it into mainstream computing? ------------------ May the bridges we burn light our way....
rol1
Looking at the price of Yamaha's developement lic. it won't be long. Creative is just milking the market while they can. Power-DVD is already shipping some kinda' 7.1 version with the Inca 88, 8 channel studio card. Hey Justin, look at the DSP's on the Luna II card, and that's just the little one. The word on thre street is because Intel gives USB away, and firewire is expensive. Unless a device must have firewire for another reason (such as replacing SCSI in a high bandwidth application), it's incremental expense is prohibitive. It gets even worse for loudspeakers. There's no way to justify $100 in high bandwidth firewire silicon for audio frequency work, when S/PDIF or analog works as well as it does. ------------------ Klipsch ProMedia Customer Service # is 1-888-554-5665
justin_tx_16
actually... i read in PC Magazine... on teh airplane so i do not know what issue... They said that USB 2.0 is at 800MBs and the current Firewire is at 400... so USB 2 is twice as fast... but also soon to come out is firewire 2... it is like over a gig a sec.... who knows... well that is what PC Mag said... do not get mad at me if this is wrong... thanks!
