jheis
My two channel system for music is a B&K ST-140 amp with a Carver CT-17 pre-amp/tuner driving a pair of 1981 Cornwalls. I just got a Denon AVR-1804 AV surround receiver and a Klipsch SC-1 center channel speaker. I set up the system using a pair of Paradigm book shelf speakers for the front channels. After watching a couple of DVD's I thought the sound would be a WHOLE lot better if I could use the Cornwalls for the front channels, but I still want to be able to drive them with the B&K for music. Since the two systems are never on at the same time, I connected a second set of speaker wires from the Denon to the Cornwalls. The HT sounds MUCH MUCH better! My question is: am I doing any harm with this setup, i.e. having the Cornwalls connected to two different amps? Thanks. James
IndyKlipschFan
By being connected to both amps.. and sending power to them both depending on what source you use..??? I see a real no no here. Get a simple speaker/ signal splitter from radio shack and sleep well at night. I would NEVER do what you have done! D-MAN
What?! Use the PRE-OUT from the HT to the preamp, and 1 set of wires ONLY to the mains. Disconnect the HT output wire to the mains, which will now run off the stereo gear ONLY. That way, whether 6-channel or stereo, ONE SET OF WIRES. For stereo, the 6-channel is OFF. That's what I do. Seadog
A very good splitter box for using two amps with one set of speakers is the Niles DPS-1 (about $90 list price). I use one to switch my Cornwalls between my HT SS amp and my 2-channel tube amp.
