sub cable

I was scanning a magazine recently and saw a sub cable that seems to have a pigtail so that it can be connected to both sub inputs. I've always just connected to one sub input and seemed to have success. So, I'm sure this is old hat for most but what's suppposed to be the benefit of doing this. The signal from the output is still the same and the sub has its own amp so ... ?

Just curious if anyone knew.

Thanks for the help.

The three common ways of connecting a sub is either to the single

LFE or to the left or right input or to both. Using the LFE input

(if your sub has one) by-passes the subs internal cross-over and

utilizes the receivers bass management. Some manufactures state a sight

db gain by connecting to both left and right inputs.

That is actually the gist of it the sub will give 3db more output for the SAME SETTING when both inputs are used. The subwoofer doesn't gain total output capacity, nor will it sound better.

OTH this can be usefull if you have a level incompatibility between the sub and the LFE output... where you are obligated to maximize both the LFE and sub level. Note that many components suffer slightly higher distortion at maximum gain. This will give you 3db extra of adjustability.

Thanks for the input. I have a huge room but the PB2+ seems to fill it well. No volume issues here. Still, all this talk about the Ultra is making me kinda jelous. I wonder how the automatic EQ on the Ultra would react if it was coupled with a second sub that isn't being EQ'd?

EDIT: Is it automatic or are the EQ controls simply on the back?
