atomicskiier01
I just purchased the RF-35's. RC-35, RS-35's and RW-12 from a local dealer (20% off retail). I have a friend that works at BB and got the Yamaha HTR-5750 for $250 (M.S.R.P. $450). Am I going to be extremely disappointed with this reciever, or is it going to do the job? I will be using optical audio cables into the reciever from the DVD and CD player. Thanks! FYI, I am posting this in the general questions area also. Hook that sucker up, and give it a listen. If you find you don't like it - maybe you can get your friend to unload it back to Best Buy. atomicskiier01
I'm going to give this a bump and ask another question. What is the difference between an averager receiver and a really good receiver? Is it power, digital to analog conversion, more types of encoding? I know that you would get a higher price going from 5.1 to 7.1 etc....any other comments?
gcoker
Now that's a good question. First you have to compare receivers in the same brand. Comparing a $450 Yamaha to a $1,100 Denon is a little more difficult. But staying in the same brand you ususally get a higher power amp, more inputs and outputs, more channels (6.1, 7.1,..etc), some times a little better build quality, more DPS's (Digital Sound Processes) and other features. It is (in my opinion) your call to decide when the point of diminishing return is and what features you really will use. There are a lot more other feature more expensive receivers have that I have not touched on, however I am of the opinion to buy the best receiver you can afford. Enigma
You know what receiver I been using for years now? The RXV795. To this day this sucker KICKS ***. There is no need for me to upgrade until something spanky comes out. I am wanting bad though a silver yamaha receiver because all my gear and speakers are silver. So so who knows. I am sure that Yamaha is gonna rock Yamaha gives off crisp clear natural sound. My heart will always stay with Yamaha when it comes to Home Theater sound. -antonio
