brentutk
I have a Yamaha rx-v540 and when installing my new TV recently I could not get the receiver to pass the s-video signal coming from my dish dvr, to the component input on my tv. I obviously ran the s-video cable into the back of the receiver( from the dish DVR), and a component cable from the "component monitor" plug on the receiver to the tv. The receiver specs indicate component/s-video conversion capabilities so why am I not able to make this conversion?

Sorry The Component connections on the back (2 I believe) wll only pass the component "monitor" output.
brentutk
Thanks for your help. That's what I was afraid of. Altough, I could have sworn I read component conversion and not composite conversion.
gcoker
Yes my Yamaha is the same. The wording you need to see is "Up-Conversion". Up-converting to component is a very new (relatively speaking) to receivers and they were on the higher end ones at that.
Guest Anonymous
the other thing is that those component inputs are not hd so if you have hd sat or cable you do no want to go through your reciever
TauRus
Many receivers offer 100 Mhz bandwidth for component switching - this is more than enough for HD (unless you need to send 1080P which does not exist as a standard yet). Also, do not confuse the so called "component upconversion" (which is basically video signal transcoding) with video upconversion to higher resolutions (e.g. 480p to 720p, etc). boomer9911
i've changed this 3X..."up converion" is BS, wow, changed my CV cable to S-VHS, from 3 cables to 1, all that info from C\V digital dvd, to A\V Receiver, out to source, why, then your Plasma via "1" cable in S-VHS that hangs on the wall, what it TRULY comes down to, less cables up the wall.... just to add, which is a better signal source C\V or S\V..easy 1..
