Of the audio autopsy photos I've seen, It seems as though the higher end dedicated amps usually come with T T-frmrs. But I've also seen high end amps with regular ones. Al Klappenberger Posted January 23, 2005 Share Posted January 23, 2005 Toroid cores simply have a continuous magnetic path inside. Very little of the magnetic field is external. Another sidelight is that toroids are somewhat less efficient than regular "E and I" core transformers, and so that type is usually used as the output transformers for tube amps.
