It's very frustrating when you're trying to tell someone that it's not too loud when they steal the metter and point out that the needle moves when they put the dial on 120... Steve_L
The MCACC that Pioneer has in their line. (Multi-Channel Accoustic Calibration) is excellent. Many people report that they have solved tuning problems with speakers that they have not been able to solve. Especially getting seamless integration with subs and mains. Mine works great. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3424/130915156AV_2004_Bro.pdf

DMF
RS closed out the old model of the analog meter early last year (or before). They have a newer model now. I have the digital version and it works just fine. You can also use it as a powered microphone for input to frequency graphing programs etc. The mike is omnidirectional and does NOT need to be pointed at the speaker. I point it straight up in the air to pick up all the speakers when doing a calibration. The MCACC and similar systems often come up with some weird combination. I suggest using a manual calibration at least as a sanity check.
jheis
I bought an RS analog SPL just last week - $39.95. Checked the RS web site 1st and it told me which of the 10 or so local RS stores had it in stock - about half of them had it. Didn't see any indication that it had been discontinued. Ghostkid
DMF Thanks for the input I guess I'll go and get the Digital one. I tried to adjust my system by ear and it made a difference, but I still to tune it a little better and get the rear speakers positioned better.
