  1. I do like the Samsungs DLPs, I play on the Xbox, but have old game systems too, for vintage reasons. I've heard that either the LCD or DLP is better for TV watcing. Also what's the bulb replacement cost for the Pedestal. I love the way it looks, but my wife would be upset if I ditched my tv stand. It's perfect for a new DLP OR LCD rear proj. or even a projector set up I can place the center channel and other items on it then.
  2. First a little history, I've just dedided to upgrade this next year. New house so I need new equipment Back when surround sound was first coming out and popular and affordable, I jumped on the band wagon and got Dolby analog receiver, HIFI Vcr, and 32 in TV. It was great in the day. I had that for about ten years and I recently got a 6.1 receiver and 27 TV w/components. Now I'm going to upgrade the Speakers to Klipsch. But the 27 inch tv is a temp and will go to my wife's viewing area downstairs. I have a 16x15 loft. I will either have the seats at and angle in the room or parallel to a wall. I'm wondering what I should use a video source. Looking around 50 inches for LCD or DLP Rear projection or a Front projector Room has one small window. Tried an old projector and it worked fine, Need to know experience with watching tv, movies, video games (that's my priority ). Have Satelite.
  3. My brother-in-law is redoing an old Theater in his hometown. i've been helping out and have learned some things. I found out that a lot of the time if you go to the newest theater or most recently remodeled or upgraded equipment, you'll have the best experience, because the projectors are new, the optics are clean, speakers calibrated, a staff that usually has some expience running the shows, clean seats and floors. Also Films are supposed to be the better quality, but do to age, and mostly the help and management trying to save money, quality goes down at theaters. And then you get that dust specks. It's sad when you go to see a new release and it's only the second running that day and it is at a 7 year old theater that you see the specks and dots. So, go only to the newest theater in your area to get the best. I did manage to snag some seats from him though and I got the platform built to put them on. Can't wait to set my room up. Reminds me to ask what choice of Video I should use, better start a new thread.
  4. My user name comes from my Xbox Live Gametag. I came up with two ways. 1. Ghost: my family is big about halloween, it's just fun for us. Also it's the way I play some games. Come out of no where and surprise you. 2. Kid: last name is Kidwell and first is Michael. Lots of Mikes where ever I work or go, so people called me by my last name and it got shortened to Kid.
  5. DMF Thanks for the input I guess I'll go and get the Digital one. I tried to adjust my system by ear and it made a difference, but I still to tune it a little better and get the rear speakers positioned better.
  6. I was at BB today and they had the JBLs and Klipsch's right next to each other. I compared just the Towers and I think the SF-3 sounded the best, but the E80 and E60 sounded pretty competitive to the S-2 and S-1. They didn't have a new S-3. or an E90 or E100 from JBL. The only thing I didn't like of the JBL line was the rear surround compared to the Klipschs, The JBL rear surround looks like it's supposed to be a rear surround, but their other little bookshelf I think the E20 sounds much better for around the same price. My brother has owned JBLs and I loved them and was ready to get some, until I heard Klipsch's and found out it's history and now I'm hooked on buying only Klipsch.
  7. WOW, lots of information, I went to Rat Shack at work today and they were out. I asked him some questions and he says that you have to sometimes point the RS meter at the speakers to get a good reading from each one. Anyone else hear of this?
  8. Rat Shack it is. Worst thing I can do is try it out and take it back if I don't like it. Thanks guys! I'll have to remember that If I move things around to recalibrate.
  9. Okay, I know your supposed to calibrate your HT system to get the most out of it. I just have a few questions on SPL meters. 1. Digital vs. analog? 2. Any brands or sites to find one besied RAT SHACK? 3. Any advice and tips from what you've learned from yours? Reason I'm asking is that I brought home some Klipsh's and a new Digital receiver and my wife didn't think the Klipsch's sounded better than the old ones, but she liked the new receiver, she didn't like the money I spent to be honest, but I wnat to blow her away this next time. I've just got a receiver, and I'm dying to get some Klipsch's.
  10. These guys are right it's better to match the all the speakers if possible, I got a new Yamaha receiver and they pretty much gave me yammie speakers with it, so I'm looking to change to Klipsch, but the Yammie speakers are all matched and they sound good, just not Klipsch Great. I've been looking at using bookshelf's for the fronts and have found some good deals on them too. I've notice that I can get an even better deal if I use bookshelf's for all around vs. books for the front and rear surrounds for the back. So, go ahead and get them.
  11. I went into a local Ovation store in town and they said the will match or do better, if I find the deals anywhere else. So, I'm going to look to maybe ungrade to SF-1's and SS-1's, if they can give me a deal. Wouldn't have to wait for shipping either. I also found out that best buy will match online prices too!
  12. the little Yamaha sub works really well for music, and I would just add a bigger and better sub later for movies.
  13. I've recently upgraded my receiver that I've had for ten years. It was a analog 5.1 mono rear sorround sound to a Yamaha 5740 reciever. I got the receiver for a very good deal. It came with a yamaha speaker package too, all for around $310.00. Normal price is 499.00 for the set. I got best buy to make me a deal! Now the speakers are okay, for now but I'm not satisfied with them, because I really want Klipsch. I've never owned and yet. I've found a good deal on a 5.1 set. or what I think is a good deal. My room is 16x15 and I've a sub, but will be adding another later. Here is the set and let me know it you think it's worth the money to start my Klipsch obession. Klipsch SB1 (2) Klipsch SC-1 (1) Klipsch SS.5 (2) Infinity PS-8 all for $578.47 I'm hoping to see if they'll drop the sub and give me just the Klipsch speakers for $329.47. Do you think that's a good deal and do you think I would be happy for say a few years with those speakers. I used to listen to them at best buy all the time before they were replaced. I can always move the speakers to another room in the future. When I'm ready for the big boys.
  14. so if I can get say 4 sb-1's for a little over two hundred. Then I can find a large and small klipsch center for the front and rear, I would have a pretty good system for not much. I've never owned any klipsch's, but after searching around I've pretty much maid my mind that the only speakers I want now our klipsch's. Then As I upgrade to the nicer series I still have use for the older one's. sounds like a good plan what do you think?
  15. I just got a great deal on a Yamaha 5740 receiver, they threw in a set of their 6.1 speakers w/sub, all for the the price of the receiver. So, I'm researching on which Klipsch's I want and can afford. so I hooked up the system with the yamaha speakers (all normal direct speakers) to my xbox and started to play Mechassault2. A helicopter's twirling sound was coming out the front speakers because that's were it was on the screen in front of me. Now when I shot it down it flew straight over head of me and the sound then was coming from the back speaker which was the twirling and then the explosion. Now that was the only thing going on at the time so that was the only sound out of any of the speakers. As I love to play games, I've noticed the same thing with racing games, as a car passes by me on the right side I will hear it's engine on the right rear speaker and get louder to the right front speaker as it goes by. same thing with the different views of racing games. If I'm looking down on the car I hear it's engine from the front three speakers, but If I'm in the car and it's a rear engine car I hear the engine sounds from the back speakers with hardly anything comeing from the fronts. I have all the speakers pointed at the listening position. would wdst speakers take away the effects I get when playing games or watching movies?? Should I look at Klipsch bookshelf speaker for rears since i've grown to like these effects. It helps in stealth games too you can hear people to your sides of behind you.
