davidpoynor
I have some KLF-20's on a Carver TFM-25 now and I have a chance to get a McIntosh MC 2255 amp...will the McIntosh sound more smooth and tube like than the carver ? The carver is steely at higher volumes to me.
CaptnBob
I would think so. Bill Bell, the owner of the venerated Music Box near Boston, claimed the MC 2205 - a predecessor of the 2255 - was the first amp he'd heard outperform his Marantz 9s. He could have had about anything he wanted, but sold the 9s to get the 2205. That's a pretty good endorsement in my book.
dodger
Yes it is a very nice little amp. Quite musical and the models I have heard had very nice tracking on the controls. dodger

lovemyhorns
I had the MC2200 amp w/Khorns and it was a wonderful, non-fatigueing sound. I'd still have it if at the time I sold it, I did not desperately need the money. I have also had a Phase Linear amp and thought it was cold and sterile, at times edgy on the top end, and definitely lacked the bass punch a McIntosh can provide. Now I have tubes...
