Stumpy
I'm considering purchasing a Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer for use with my stereo system. The receiver I'm using is an Onkyo TX-8511, and one pair of speakers is connected to it. There are no subwoofer specific outputs, but I was wondering if I could use the "Tape Out" connections (2 RCA - L and R) to go to the subwoofer? Thanks for your help. oogins
Well according to Onkyo's webpage, there is a sub preout on that receiver. But even if there isn't, you can connect the sub using speaker wires. Then you connect your speakers to the sub. Or you can connect you sub on the B switch, while keeping your speakers on A. I'm not too sure if using the "Tape Out" connection would work. I think the RCA inputs on the sub are only for preouts. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Sound Blaster Live! dougdrake2
Oogins is right on. The tape output is not an attenuated output -- it always blasts at full volume from whatever source you have going to the tape. You'll never be able to adjust the sub volume along with the other speakers using the receiver's volume knob. DD
