RickM
Has anyone tried a large Altec multicell horn with the LaScala compression driver? I have La Scala and 1505s so is it worth a try?
Dylanl
KCM from this forum has done this. I listened to the set up and it sounded good. I think it was an Altec 811 horn.
Colin
many people are upgrading their Khorn bass bins to bigger squawkers and tweeters, not that many upgrading the LS or belles that i know of, but I will watch this just in case...
sfogg
Well, it isn't a multicell horn but I used Altec sectoral horns in my La Scalas.... I orignally used it on top of the cabinet with the K55v driver but ended up going with an Altec 902 and coverting it to a two way. Isn't the 1505 a large format driver? Do you have a suitable adapter to get it down to a small format driver? You will probably need to drill that adapter to let it accept a 3 hole small format JBL driver. Then from there you need a small format JBL driver to a screw on adapter which you can get at Partsexpress. Those 1505 are *huge* aren't they? Love to hear one of them sometime. m00n
sfogg, what's that behind your lascala?
sfogg
Moon, Right behind it? (The black and red thing?) Is a handtruck I used to move the three LaScala's and the subwoofer cabinets outside to work on them. BTW, I just did a quick search for the 1505 horns and found this picture.... The 'little' pair of woofers on each speaker are 15" units. The 'small' horn between the woofer cabinets and the big horn are 511b horns (what fills my LaScalas) and the upper horn is the 1505. m00n
Na, I was talking about the black speaker box. What is it? Meaning what speaker?
sfogg
"I was talking about the black speaker box. What is it? Meaning what speaker?" There is actually two of those boxes back there. They are my DIY subs. The cabinets are 6'^3 sealed enclosures (sized to match the height and depth of the Las) and each is loaded with two JBL Sub1500 drivers for a Q of 0.5. They are driven by a Crown K2. Shawn
Mick Bell
I use Altec 811b horns with my Belle Klipsch. For a while I used the Klipsch driver but then changed to the Altec 902. The big horns are a big improvement. Much better dispersion and larger sound stage. Mick Shawn: Are those Altec 511s in your La Scala? sfogg
Mick, Yup, 511Bs with 902-8B drivers and Al's ES600T networks. Shawn
3dzapper
Shawn, what are those woofers between the horns in your second picture? 24" Hartleys?
sfogg
Yup, see: http://aca.gr/pop_fjjj.htm Shawn
3dzapper
WOW!!!!! My friend's Hartleys with one of those 24" in each with a whole bunch of mids and tweeters were the only speaker to touch the bass of a Khorn (or derivative) 30 years ago. But, the only ones I actually heard. Rick
