Will KG4's be a good match for Forte's...

While not perfect, they are probably better than what you have now. If you get them for a good price (I'm assuming you are asking because you have a line on a pair) go for it. If not, wait for quartets or more Forte's. You did not say if these are Forte's or Forte II's. Be as specific as you can about your room size, budget, current equipment, etc. and you will get better answers on this forum.

As to whether they are better for sides or rears, what would be the alternative sides or rears for example?

(Thanks for the input.) I am currently using a Denon AVR 2802 and might upgrade to a true seven channel. The only mains that I have currently are Forte I's. These are all I have so far for an upgraded surround sound to fill a room of about 15' by 15'. Hopefully, I will find an Academy for the center. Also, tomorrow there is a good chance that I am purchasing a Klipsch KSW15 for a sub.
