How can this be?

I was at a electronics showroom to check out the TVs. I was looking at the Sony KV-ES34M80.

The Sony has DCR-1250 and DCR-100 and it meant to be flicker free, but it was flickering when I saw it. How can this be? And yes, it was the same model, not some other.

How was the signal being fed to the set? Could be simple case of garbage in garbage out.

Like you, I suspect, I have been hitting the local stores to see if I can actually see any difference between all these confusing and overlapping names and "performance" enhancements. After some very frustrating tire kicking, a guy at one store said, "Forget trying to do any sort of comparison shopping in anything but the very top high-end stores." He said in most stores the sources, cables, cross connections, switching, and all the other crap is so bungled up as to render in-store on-screen performance meaningless.

But this was a high-end store. Secondly, there was a Toshiba next to it and it was not flickering at all. And there were some other smaller Sony TVs and they were not flickering at all.

BTW, this store also had a 60" Plasma TV!

If you're able to, try going back to the store and ask them to hook up a different DVD player or different input device and see if the TV still flickers. Or maybe try a different store that carries the same model of TV and see if the flickering is still there. It might be possible it was just a bad unit.
