Kain
I was at a electronics showroom to check out the TVs. I was looking at the Sony KV-ES34M80. The Sony has DCR-1250 and DCR-100 and it meant to be flicker free, but it was flickering when I saw it. How can this be? And yes, it was the same model, not some other. Kain
Anyone know why? Could it be that it was not set up right?
Fried Elliott
How was the signal being fed to the set? Could be simple case of garbage in garbage out. Like you, I suspect, I have been hitting the local stores to see if I can actually see any difference between all these confusing and overlapping names and "performance" enhancements. After some very frustrating tire kicking, a guy at one store said, "Forget trying to do any sort of comparison shopping in anything but the very top high-end stores." He said in most stores the sources, cables, cross connections, switching, and all the other crap is so bungled up as to render in-store on-screen performance meaningless. Kain
But this was a high-end store. Secondly, there was a Toshiba next to it and it was not flickering at all. And there were some other smaller Sony TVs and they were not flickering at all. BTW, this store also had a 60" Plasma TV!
Kain
Anyone?? I don't wanna buy a TV that flickers!
oogins
If you're able to, try going back to the store and ask them to hook up a different DVD player or different input device and see if the TV still flickers. Or maybe try a different store that carries the same model of TV and see if the flickering is still there. It might be possible it was just a bad unit. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II NEC MultiSync M700 17" (soon to be Sony G400 19") Razor Boomslang 2000 w/Everglide Giganta These speakers are for my computer, not a HT Receiver: Kenwood VR-409 (soon to be Denon AVR-2802) Speakers: Klipsch Quintets (5 sats. + center) Sub: Sony SA-W305 mini-sub (soon to be HSU Research VTF-2 or Paradigm PW-2200)
