Mavicator
Dumb question... Are small speakers better at low volumes than larger ones? For example, Rx-25, 35, 75, etc.
Spkrdctr
Generally, yes. But it really depends. How is that for a good answer? It depends on the music you listen to, the room size and other variables. But generally. they can sound better at low volumes rather than a huge (efficient)speaker that has no power going to it. Above all, try to listen and determine this issue yourself. Good Luck!
hwatkins
I have to disagree with above - generally speaking a higher efficiency speaker (such as the larger Klipsch) takes much less power to drive. This translates to very clean sound, especially at lower volumes where there is very little little power being used. DISCLAIMER - electronic are a large part of this and may produce varied results....
MrMcGoo
A very high sensitivity speaker with a very good front end setup will give good low volume performance. Room acoustics will also be a major factor. A very dead room will require more volume. Bill
Mavicator
Thanks, that makes sense. I'm still just nervous about forking out the money for the R7's instead of 35's, provided my better half allows me to buy them and not be killed for it. The room is not big (app. 14x22) and other than the usual DVD stuff I also listen to music, which includes classical where volumes can get low but still include many instruments. Edit: PS... the room is definately not 'dead'. It's wood floors and vaulted ceilings. :\
