Scp53
so i went to good will today and i found a prize. its a denon dcm-440 5 cd player. works very well and has no scratches. the ONLY thing that is not working the best is the motor drive to rotate the disk plate thing. i tore it all apart and just seems that these 2 gears like to make noise. i lubed them because there wasnt much left on them. seemed to help a little. without the cd plate on the drive thinger the noise is a lot less. seems that the slight gear noise resonates the big 5 disk plate and makes it noisier. but from what i saw nothing is going to break. ill just live with the noise. no biggie. but what is this the only question i have about it is what is 20bit 8 times over sampling digital filter? i understand kinda what its doing. and it has some double super linear converter on it too. not sure what that does, etc. it also has pcm digital output on it. can i use any decent rca cabling? or i need a specific rca type connect? thanks for any comments on this player's quality and help with my questions. cheers, scp53

marksdad
multidisc players are trouble to start with, and if you have to start out repairing, tham my suggestion is pass it by, the repairs could be more than the machine is worth, probable is, sounds like a bad deal to me, why buy some one elses problems? Scp53
fyi, NOTHING had to be repaired. i was just trying to quiet it down a little. the thing works perfectly fine, just a little more noise. no big deal. turns at the normal speed, etc. scp53
Olorin
You could try some Dynamat or something on the underside of the platter to dampen the vibrations. You could also damp the chassis while you're at it. Might not help, but couldn't hurt either.
