maxg
Without going into too much detail I have a client that manufactures a range of products that is looking for a distributor in the US. Of most immediate interest IMHO is his pro-audio line of powered speakers. These are not only amplified but can run on batteries for upto 12 hours and work wirelessly using the 2.4 GHz frequency. From what I know this makes them almost unique. I have printed brochures I can scan and send to potential distributors - but no list of candidates. Anyone got any contacts? Pricing is yet to be confirmed - but he is currently looking for something around $700 a pair which should make him competitive. Just as a matter of interest I have one of his other products at my house at the moment. This is a 2 stage amp. The first stage takes the output from the pre-amp and then sends it wirelessly to 2 powered mono-blocks (70 wpc in this case) that run my speakers. I have done a bit of testing and cannot really fault the performance at all - maybe a little bass shy in relation to my 70 wpc tubes but other than that - really really good. Of course the distances we are talking about in my setup is only a matter of a few feet. These things are supposed to work over distances of upto 100 feet but I have not tried it. Not entirely sure what the market for this particular device is - cant imagine audiophiles giving up their cables (!) Would be good for a second room setup - or a pair in the garden - and would certainly be a boon for those intending to run rear speakers in a home theater / surround sound music arrangement - but might be a bit pricey if used simply to replace cabling (this setup is around $650 currently - I am reviewing his costing analysis now so that might change). Course this arrangement could also go into a pro-audio setup as well. Would certainly drive a pair of LaScala's without breaking sweat to concert levels - could not get the amps to clip even with my pre-amp volume control on "max". I think there is some 6 dB headroom over the 70 wpc but he runs with rather low input sensitivity so I cant get there with my pre. The amps will also work from the speaker out of any existing amp via separate inputs where a pre is not available. Any thoughts anyone? Looking to help him open the US market. For reference he can produce 500 units per month currently and can rack that up to 2000 per month within a short period if required.
