LarryC
This fine Basis 2001 TT (the same model GaryMD has) -- http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1128651035 -- has been sitting in undeserved neglect on Audiogon for a few months now at $1,695 -- I'm very surprised it's still available. The price is already very reasonable for that model (he's lowered it once), plus the TT's been gone over by AJ Conti, the manufacturer, and has an upgraded motor and suspension pods. Unlike the Linn, these suspension pods require no maintenance and little adjustment. However, no tonearm, and no clamp which I consider very helpful (Basis's costs $300), which puts it out of your range. Another forum member was considering it for a while until he found another, exceptional deal, but may still have it in the back of his mind for his second system. Allan Songer
Wow. That's a tough one. Sort of like asking if you like Indian food better than Italian food--they are SO different!!! You will CERTAINLY notice a BIG difference, but weather or not it's BETTER will be up to you.
dubai2000
Couldn't it put better than Allan []. Just wondering what you don't like about your current TT? When it comes to second hand TT I am very fond of those 'old' Thorens decks....especially if you add a nice SME arm......can't wait for my parcels[].
