tommiwan
Ok, I know this may be a pretty noobish question, but I have never been able to figure it out on my own... Can someone help me out? I read a lot of threads about Audio/Video recievers, and I can't understand why someone would run their video through a reciever. What is gained? Why not just go direct form the source to the TV? The reciever doesn't upgrade the video at all (to my knowledge) Can someone explain this to me? The only thing I can think of is uniformity, but I am not that particular. Olorin
Convenience. I run one set of cables to the TV, and I don't have to change TV inputs every time I switch from the DVD player to the cable box.
tommiwan
I can understand that... is there any other reason? I suppose the video side of the recievers don't really make a difference then. Maybe just in the number of inputs.
Olorin
Does there need to be another one? I mean, if you have a DVD player, a VCR, a cable/satellite decoder, a laser disc player, and a game console to run, what's the best way to manage that? tommiwan
I suppose not... as long as there are enough HD inputs to meet my needs... I guess that is a matter of shopping around.
Olorin
Sorry, I missed addressing one of your questions. Some newer receivers with HDMI outputs can upconvert signals from your various players. I'm not up on which ones can do that, though. mbajner
take the shortest route possible for any connections I do not send any video through my receiver for this reason for my situtation, the video signals from the DVD player and the VCR (which is not currently hooked up) go directly to the TV
