TheSoundBroker
Okay, picked up a set of Heresy II's in oak at a VERY reasonable price. Overall good condition but when I picked them up I met the guy at a restaurant in Seattle. When I got them home, I noticed they were stinky...really stinky of cigarette smoke. Anybody have suggestions to get it out? They are starting to stank up my downstairs!
BS Button
A lot of it may be in the grill cloth, so use a general cleaning there: fabreez application, then let dry. Then wood soap on the cabs. Then some preferred furniture oil. Gently vacuum the woofer cone. Dust inside of the horns. Let us know. Both pairs of my used Heritage speakers, fortunately did not smell like cigarettes, but they both had the odor of the former owners abode. My wife said they smelled funny, but with some of the above, they've taken on the BS Button family smell. BS
jheis
See the responses to my post in the technical questions section: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/621244/ShowPost.aspx My stinky problem was with a pre-amp and remote that had suffered the same fate. Time seems to be working in my case. With speakers, however, it's all absorbent surfaces which may require more drastic measures - maybe even selling them on to a smoker who won't care about the stench. Good luck. It's hard to explain to a smoker just how obnoxious the tobacco stench can be to someone who doesn't smoke. California banned smoking in all public facilities years ago and we've gotten used to not having to put up with the stench of tobacco smoke in our clothing and in our hair as a cost of going out to a restaurant or club for the evening. colterphoto1
Heresy II's have no dampening material inside, right? That's a real odor-soaker, either the tissue material or the soft foam, so get it out of there and replace with new. The cardboard woofer cone material is the most absorbent thing on the surface. You might try my cone painting technique with SEM paint for auto vinyl tops. Don't think if affects the sound one bit. You can see the finished project on my Decorator Heresy thread. TheSoundBroker
I'm going to try the Febreeze thing and see what happens. That and some lemon oil. If the woofers are too far gone, I'll probably just replace them (cheap).
