solarcarl
While I'm at it with re-capping my E-2 networks I thought trying something I saw posted. One guy moved one of the taps on the inductor and raved about how it gave more bass. My T2a is currently stock. What would I do to get the effect he described? D-MAN
The settings are a mystery although some of the crossover guys can fill that in for you. The effect is that it alters the power (signal amplitude) distribution to a degree. The first effect is that if the mid is attenuated slightly more, the apparent change to the listener is that the bass (which is unattenuated in all cases) is louder (whether it actually is or not). If the midrange is attenuated slightly less than its previous setting, the effect is that the midrange portion becomes louder and the bass SEEMINGLY is not as loud. There is a little power that diverts to the woofer so it does also get louder when anything in the circuit is attenuated, but it is usually so small that it may not be noticable. Malcolm
Turn up the bass control on your amp or get a subwoofer. The woofer in your Heresy is not running off the autotransformer. Anything you do to get "more bass" by changing the autotransformer is just going to reduce the overall efficiency of the Heresy. Changing the autotransformer taps may make the woofer louder in comparison to the squawker and tweeter, but you can do that with tone controls. And whatever you do, you are not going to get lower bass of out it. It is going to be 3 dB down by about 65 Hz no matter what you do. JohnA
Do a search on my name and Type E mod. I devised a crossover for the HIs that makes them sound a lot like La Scalas, and makes the amplitude response a lot closer to flat. You should find a schematic and a temporary mod to see if you like the sound. If your E-2s are significantly different from the late Type Es, I'll look at it to see if I can help.
