CECAA850
My son locked his up Christmas morning when attempting to charge it. He hooked it up to the computer BEFORE installing the software on the computer. Big no-no. It took me about 30 minutes of looking around the Apple web site to find out how to unlock it. There is a very specific sequence of things you must do before it will unlock. Follow the directions exactly and it will unlock.
Jay481985
??? ummm reset it you mean? just hold the select (middle button and the menu the up button at the same time for lie 5 seconds until you see the apple thing and it resets sorta like the old nintendo systems. Also there are other ways to access the ipod's bios but that is for another discussion. But after you reset the iPod it should be fine. Guest BobG
I locked up my iPod twice. Once from static electricity and the other from pressing buttons too fast. Both times the standard reset process cured the problem.

The reset we had to do involved cycling the lock/unlock switch on the top and holding the buttons you mentioned. The normal reset procedure outlined in the manual wouldn't get it done. Jay481985
isn't that the normal reset procedure? I neglected the lock unlock thing because most times it is not needed.
