Professor.Ham.Slap
I'm thinking about upgrading my reciever from a Pioneer 811S to the Yamaha 5990. I've checked it out at Best Buy, but as you can imagine it's hard to really audition the reciever in that situation. Furthermore, generally when I think of good recievers I think of HK, Pioneer and Denon. Does anyone have any comments about the 5990 or Yamahas with Klipsch in general? MrMcGoo
Professor, The Yammie will be two steps up from what you have, but the new surround formats will be out next year. Current models will go on sale in a couple of months or less. CES in January will make current stuff look weak, so prices will drop. The other models to look at are the Pioneer 1015TX-K and the Panasonic digital receivers. The Pioneer has THX post processing which is a plus with Klipsch. It also has more power than the 811. Moderators dtel Posted December 28, 2005 Moderators Share Posted December 28, 2005 Can't say about the HTR 5990, i have the RXV 730 for a year or two now. I had it with the Synergy sb3 ,ss1,sc1, and now i have Forte ll fronts and center , and later i will get two more Forte ll's for rear's. With the Synergy and Forte the Yamaha sounds great to me and everyone who listens not at all bright like some claim. The reason i bought a Yamaha was the features it had at this price range was $500 when i bought it. I read alot about Harmon K but they were a little more for the same features at the time, but what i now read they are very good also. I don't know where the Htr 5990 is compared to the Rxv 730 but i feel you can't go wrong with Yamaha, Just stay away from the lowest models of any brand. I did compare the Yamaha to Denon and Onyko and the Yamaha beat both , to me at least.
