My Progress so far on my Belle Project

Just wanted everyone to know the speakers are coming along. I have the outside box and the doghousees built. The 3 x 13 hole is cut and routered. I have chosen a Bombay Mahogany stain for color. Wanted something lighter but the dark color won me over on the cabinet grade paneling.

I am including some pictures, albeit blurry from a cheap digital camera.

a little fuzzy, but looks good so far. you've chosen a different,

probably easier construction method than I did. I built the

doghouse on the lower plate, installed the top plate, then the

sides. I wanted the top cabinet to be "dis-assemble-able" like

Klipsch made so I built the top in a similar fashion. installed

the bottom, built the side panels separate, laid on the top.

studs and nuts hold the upper sides and top on.

Hey Dan... glad those plans are coming to use.

Yeah, a little fuzzy... [:P]

As far as i can tell he is also building the bass bin (first picture)

separately from the HF bin (not shown)... but like you mentionned,

assembled it in a different order.

Dan, we'll have to get you a cheapy digital camera... [;)]

keep us up to date...

Yes, the squaker and tweeter bins are being built seperate. They wont look like the stock belle top either. I am using jbl horns and drivers for squaker and tweeter. I think they will look like ALK's modified belle's but on steroids. Jbl 2482 driver on 2380 horn and 2404 tweeter. Did measuring and the top bin will be 30 inches wide and 19 inches tall to accomodate the horn for the squaker. I decided to build the bass bins a little different than tom. The most comical was trying to hold the doghouse in alignment while drilling and screwing...then disassemble and glue. Needed 4 hands and an arm growing out of my chest. I glue and screw since that has worked great before--extremely solid once glue dries. I also use the elmer's poly glue. Countersink all screw holes and then fill holes with filler. That's partly why I decided to use the dark stain, it covers the holes better.

But nonetheless, coming along, should be up and running early feb. And cudoes to Bob Crites, ordered a set of correct woofers from him and he was extremely quick on getting them shipped out. THANKS BOB!

For comparison's sake I may try a set of jbl pro woofers after I have them going for a while, just to see. Damn curiousity keeps me spending too much money!

I know the camera sucks, but wood, woofers, and router bits have me broke right now, will be shopping for another digital camera soon.

As far as i know, the horn slot is "specific" to the K33 and a JBL

woofer would require a larger one... but someone like DMan could give

you more details to that.

The JBL should have a 6x13" slot - the 3" slot is used for the K33E which has a pronounced fall off in the upper frequency corner.

However, the narrow slot will only lessen the efficiency for the JBL - it won't particularily effect the frequency response. But you would like the wider slot better, I'm sure.
