A few questions and a hello

Hi everyone, my first post is about my HT...

Before I get to my question I want to list what I have...

62" Mitsubishi Diamond DLP

Sony 5000ES Reciever 175w x 7

KSW-200 Sub

RC-3 Center

Junk fronts and junk rears

I want to get RF-5's for the front and for the rear, and some type of surround speaker for the sides.

I also want to up grade my sub one of these days, too.

My HT room is 20'L x 12'W would the RF-5's be good for this set

up. By reading alot of these posts I know that the RF-7 is highly

sought after, but I really don't think I need them in my small room. I

would rather stick with the 8" RF-5. Plus the RF-7's are a

little to pricey for me.

I would really appriciate your imput.

My advice is to juggle your spending plan and devote more of your budget to the front speakers and less to the rears. BTW, RF-5s and 7s are now replaced by newer models. RF-63 and RF-83 both with price and performance increases. You might consider RF-63s as fronts and smaller rears. Some who listen mostly to music in surround advocate identical fronts and rears. A case can be made for this but IMO only of your use is predominantly music surround listening. Even then, it's not my suggested approach but each to his/her own. You might find RF-5s at very hot prices now that they are discontinued and they are a nice sounding model. Check out the RF-63 before making a purchase. It's a very fine model with excellent performance and appearance.

Unless you are in a huge rush, I suggest you spend a little time reading several of the HT threads here on the Klipsch Forum. You can also ask questions based on what you read. RF5s are great speakers but there are other options (for equal or less money) including older Klipsch speakers. You and I are opposites in that I have the speakers ready and am in the market for new video equipment. I have been looking at the Mitsubishi that you have or possibly the 73 (I think). Where are you at? I just bought some floor model RB-25s and a RC-25 at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha on Tuesday. I got them for about 45% off MSRP. They had RF-7s, RF-5s, and I believe it was RF-35s still there as floor models (plus another RC-25 and a pair of RS-25s.) Probably about 30% - 35% off MSRP but there is a little extra room for negotiation.

They have NFM in KC and Des Moines also.

BobG so would you then suggest a RF-83 in front and RF-82 or a RF-63's in the back?

I mostly do watch movies in my HT, so I like your idea of putting smaller speakers in the back.

I am not too excited about having the RF-63 as front speakers because

of the smaller woofer size. ( even though it does have greater

range) I am worried that my room is too big to use the smaller

speakers in the front.

What are the approx. cost diffrence between the the RF-63, RF-82, and the RF83.

Boomac- I LOVE my Diamond TV, it has the best picture IMO.

At the time I bought mine the only bigger size I believe was an 80", I

would have bought it if it weren't for the $25,000 price tag. lol

All things are relative, in this case, relative to your budget. I

am not a dealer, but based upon recent research when buying my speakers

I made notes that the MSRP of each model is:

RF-82 = $499 each

RF-63 = $899 each

RF-83 = $1,249 each

The 63's and 83' were just out of my league, so I did not look very far

for "street prices" on those. I have seen post on this forum

claiming RF-82s bought for $770 a pair ($385 each), I bought mine for

slightly less than that as part of a larger package.

RF-82s up front, RC-62 center stage, RW-10 down low, CDT-5650-Cs on the

side lines, CDT-5800-Cs bringing up the rear, and AW-650s playing in

the perimeter
