thebes
To celebrate Spring, we have a call for snow. Not to worry I'll keep warm with some hot tunes. This thread has been flagging lately, but fear not, I'm working on various schemes to bring up participation again. Format's simple: Name of artist or group, name of album, type of music as best you can (rock, blues etc.), and recording format (cd, lp etc.) As usual I'll start it off with: Preservation Hall Jazz Band, "Live at Stanford", ragtime, lp People may think it's neerdy, or only useful for background in a period movie, but ragtime really did give birth to the Blues. Not to mention plenty of horns of all types. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been around it seems like forever. It's name gives it's all away. I have four lps and one cd and not one of them has the exact same lineup of musicians, one presumes the claim of age and death necessiating staff changes. Sound quality varies,b ut is usually good and the sense of energy, creativity and musicians who have long since mastered their instruments make this a special listening experience. So what do you have to share this week?

Def Leper
Ein Straussfest II, Erich Kunzel & Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Strauss Festival, Telarc CD Follow up to the very successful Ein Straussfest, classic waltz fun with plenty of sound system destroying pops, bangs and whinnies. Guaranteed to make Granny's false teeth pop out when set at volume 7 or higher. (Volume 4 with Klipsch speakers.)
