Just thought I'd pass the info along... as the Klipsch iFi received the

top score in ArsTechnica's "High-end iPod speaker system"

shootout. Those who follow the tech industry will know Ars's no

nonsense community and attitude.

A pre-selection was done and the iFi was compared to the well regarded

Altec-Lansing iM7 and the iPod Hi-Fi. Scores were 8, 6, and

7 respectively.

Good work...

"We were curious what the bass boost on the Klipsch unit actually did,

so we took two sets of measurements: one with the Bass dial half-way

up, and one with it all the way down. The blue line shows the

"bassified" results and the green is the result without the bass. With

the bass, the line crosses the 0db mark at about 30Hz and descends at

the 11.5kHz mark. Without it, the results are more interesting. With

the bass boost turned all the way down, it crosses at about 65Hz and

14.5kHz respectively. It becomes evident that Klipsch has the bass

boost do more than just boost bass, but it results in a curve that one

would see with some sort of Hip-Hop EQ. The non bass-boosted curve,

although far from flat, is flatter than its boosted counterpart and

flatter than the iM7 even though it consists of more hype overall."

Ok I understand that the apple hifi and altec im7 are pretty much non placement speakers. But the ifi is something totally different. Really, he tried to make this a non biased test but again he did not state the room size, and the subwoofer placement anywhere in the test for the ifi. And we know that subwoofer placement is key. Also ummm he has it wrong with the bass boost...... Neutral is when the middle two lights turn on, that is neutral, by placing the subwoofer all the way down, he infact turned the subwoofer off....... That is night mode author!

Also he has no specified placement on the satellites. Did he space them 3 feet apart, 6 feet? what was the height, where they cambered inward? did he even bother to use the allen wrench to make sure the speakers and especially the hornloaded speaker was aimed at the ears? the ifi tends to sound a bit dry off axis. Also these are not near field speakers...... They sounded ho hum at 3 feet, they open up after 6 feet.

I'd point out the bass boost mistake to the author and perhaps he can correct his article and results. Good observation Jay!

I wonder if the author also allowed all the speakers to break in?

Some reviewers need ediucation in basic acoustic principles and better overall knowledge. They may be ok writers but many reviews are total waste of mag or internet space.

At least when Klipsch get positive reviews,it can only help.
