colterphoto1
I've got this PA thread going down in General in which I'm inventorying all my amps and speakers and trying to decide what to keep and what to sell. I'm trying to keep enough amps to tri-amp my double stack of Industrial LaScalas with additional subwoofers. If anyone here has any advice on what the balance of wattage should be or has tried this, please give a shout to this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/758019.aspx Thanks Michael see BSBUTTON, I AM selling some stuff. Just got to figure out what! There's probably a grand or two lying here unused and that's not counting the excess Klispch inventory!
tigerwoodKhorns
I tei-amped K Horns using 30 wpc for tweeter, 30 for midrange and 200 wpc for woofer. Worked very well. I have a line on an Ashley 4001 crossover that is supposed to be mint. I can hook you up with the guy. My guess is $200 to $250. Nice unit. colterphoto1
So going to my PA thread, I could use my BGW 75 for the tweets, except I'm going SUB/Bass/MidHigh I'm kinda looking at 300/200/150 or so. Remember this is dual stacks. And I have a Rane 23B xover, so I'm set there.

The 200 wpc was barely used (it is the only amp that had meters). If you have a 75 wpc amp that is plenty for the mids and tweets. Remember, the woofer is about 101 to 103 db (guess) and the mid is around 107. That is a huge difference when comparing wattage. colterphoto1
dang, that 4001 is stereo 4way and retails for over $5 bills. $250'd be nice.
DrWho
Well if you want a cookie cutter approach you should calculate your desired peak SPL and then double the required wattage for each driver. You might have to do some modification to the passive crossover because the drivers are attenuated down and by removing the attenuation you will change the impedance and thus require different everything. But you will want to remove it to take advantage of the smaller amps. One thing to be careful about is the nonlinear behavior of the amps. In the ideal world, the amps will change the output voltage linearly to the input voltage - but the complex impedance of the speakers makes this rarely the case...so you might find some imbalances arising as you change the SPL when you go with such very different amps. I'm probably not describing this correctly and have no clue what spec would correlate to this, but I know it happens. But since you have all the amps and crossovers laying around and plenty of patch cords why don't you just go experiment with every possible logical combination until you settle on something you like? You want a minion to run around and do it for you? []
