v.2-400 - how many versions?!

after all the research, im still a bit confused and do not know if i should get a set of the v.2-400 verses the set of 4.1, or just not get them at all and go with altec lansing ada890s..

first i have the prices to consider:

v.2-400 = $200

4.1 = $300

altecs ada890 = $220

i basically dont know which is the best choice to make here, im hearing all these flaws with the v.2-400, and from what ive researched, they say that some have the HISS and the STATIC and some versions of the v.2-400 dont.

how many versions of the v.2-400 are there? it was said that the 2nd batch of the v.2-400 (not 4.1) had a fix in it to ease the hiss.. so if you buy a v.2-400 sometime now, they would most likely have the fix..

it's just really confusing.. i dont want to buy something and regret wasting 200 dollars, or i dont wanna buy it for 200 then end up spending more money just to make it decent..

i dont want to buy the 4.1, cause its 100 dollars more, i dont think the extra knobs are worth the 100..

altec lansings ada890 are for $220, 20 dollars more for something that has never had any records of being defective..

i really dont know what to spend my money on..

all im really asking, is:

is the v.2-400 really worth the money? how noticable are the flaws? boominess? static? hiss?

can someone help me out asap..

ok there are the original v.2-400s, with a low gain preamp, allowing you to get insane volumes, but with major distortion. The updated preamp or 1st revision changed the gain so the top volume was not as loud, but was also not distorted. The 4.1s were released to fix the xover in the sats, because the original pros had weak midrange. The cp-1 is the control pod from the 4.1s that you can use for the v.2-400s for $50. If your looking at $200, go with the new logitech, if your looking for $300, go with the 4.1s.

the only other choice you should be making between Klipsch the others is Klipsch and Logitech. I do not know where you would find the v2.400's, on eBay? The 4.1's have a new and better control pod, a big plus. If you want a sound that is as good as or better than the Klipsch's and nearly half the price of the 4.1's, get the Logitech Z560's. They are like $170! And they do sound great. If you get the Klipsch's, get the 4.1's, the improved pre-amp and crossover really do make a difference, besides, i do not know where you would get a v2.400 and if it would still be under warranty, not if bought from an unauthorized dealer or if older than a year old.

the klipsch v.2-400 are for $199 at www.vanns.com

what is making me re-consider and keep re-considering! is my thought process

the klipsch v.2-400 are only known to sound bad above the 50% volume mark..

i have basically narrowed my choices down to altec lansing ada 890s or the v.2-400's..

what im THINKING, is that if the v.2-400's only go bad over 50%, and its 400 watts, then i can hit a 200watt max.. and have nice speakers!

if i were to get the altec lansings, i would have to max out at 120watts and have no more leeway..

does any one know how bad the hiss is? or how horrible the v.2-400's can get?

personally im leaning towards the v.2-400 because they can be wall mounted and they seem like a very nice system for gaming and home entertainment.. and i can probably get them for $180 on ebay!

but i dont wanna waste my money if the flaws are that apparent..

I sold my two year old set of V.2's for $250. to a friend, and purchased the new logitech's. Read my review of them under the "New Logitech Speakers" thread under the 4.1 questions forum. Believe me, they're about the best value for your dollar.

i second bruce's second of my thought that you should take a look at the LogiTechs. There raelly are only 3 choices of computer speakers that can rock. Klipsch, LogiTech and Siccoro Crossfires. In price to performance ratio, LogiTech wins, the Klipsch, then Siccoro. The LogiTechs sound awesome and the price is of the best you can find. I would not get a v2.400. You will more than likely have to spend an extra $50 for the control pod fix anyways, that makes them $250 total. Get the LogiTech Z560's. End of story! cwm4.gifcwm12.gifcwm4.gifcwm12.gif

thanks guys,

i took a look at the logitech z-560's, they seem to be a direct competition to the klipsch.. hopefully klipsch will see and lower their prices!

ive checked prices, and the lowest ive seen for these z-560s (retail) is $135!!

what a deal! bruce i will read ur review..

thakns for the tips guys, saved me a bundle!

klipsch really does not respond to competition like that. it is not a price war, they set the price and that is just how they go. products like computers have lots of tough competition and thus must have price wars to keep afloat. Klipsch's products most always stay at the MSRP and that price does not fluctuate nearly ever, unless the dealer has a special.

Glad to know you are going to look at the Z560's.

well the klipsch has to do a lot more to sell their product now..!!

the logitechs look great, and probably sound great too.. next week (when my paycheck comes in) im gonna go check it out.. (it takes 2 paychecks to get the 4.1!)

anyone knows who carries this? bestbuy? compusa? circuit city? ive been looking at these large retailers websites and they dont have em listed yet..

i will probably buy from a retail store to save on the shipping..

oh yeh, can anyone give me more info on how these logitech satellites can be "wall-mounted" ?

can it revolve or move after its mounted? or is it like dead stuck..

you must rememebr, that v2.400 set is well over a year old, the new ones did not have the crackly knobs. the 4.1's have a revamped control pod too, even more so than the last edition of the v2.400's. also, how many htousands of times had that set been tortured by stupid kids who don't realise the power of 400 watts? LoL!

the logitechs were at teh best buy in houston...

its weird how some best buys have em and some dont, do u remember how much they were listed for at best buy?

and have u heard them up next to the 4.1's ? how do they sound vs 4.1, to you at least.. considerablly alike?

anyways, imma try a different best buy next week.. its funny how they carry the other z versions of the logitech but not the z-560..

they both sound great. if i did not have the loyalty that i have with Klipsch and had never had a REAL computer speaker system, i would go for the Z-560's, no questions asked. The price is the kicker. TO me it is very hard to say which sounds better. They both sound great. Just preference i guess...
