formica
Ok... I'm beginning to plan out my centre channel which will be basically similar to the other Cornscala's (single bass bin) which have built using the Klipsch K400 style horn. What's the consensus on the x-over and x-over points? Is custom the only way to go and any schematics? Yeah... my mind has been elsewhere and I'm too lazy to search through all the posts... Guest " "
What xover do you have in your other Cornscala's? B-1, B-2, B-3?
formica
You're right that my initial text isn't clear... as i was refering to Cornscala's built by others (not myself). I'm using Klipschorns as mains (typical AA)... and Cornwall and Heresy surrounds. The centre Heresy i have just doesn't cut it... ROb EDIT: are the typical Cornwall crossovers (B1, B2, B3) good enough for the larger (more efficient?) K400 horn?
DrWho
EDIT: are the typical Cornwall crossovers (B1, B2, B3) good enough for the larger (more efficient?) K400 horn? Short answer = no
Guest " "
formica So, since your current speakers have gentle slope xovers in them, starting point would be the AA network if you were going to use a horn with a 400hz cutoff. If your going to build from scratch, you might want to include the p-trap modification. Details can be found by searching for p-trap. BEC
I use the following crossover for the first series of Cornscala. This would be with an approximate Cornwall bass bin, with K-400/K-55 and K-77. This is a type B crossover with the only mod being a 7 uF cap for the midrange compared to the 4 uF for a standard type B. BEC
For the second generation of the Cornscala, I use a slightly different crossover. This one would probably not be good for a K-77 since it crosses over too low for the K-77. I use my CT125 with this one. Bob Crites
formica
Bob.... I was hoping you were going to chime in. Right now, my mains (actually all 6 channels) are using the K77.... so I figured keeping it matched. This is a type B crossover with the only mod being a 7 uF cap for the midrange compared to the 4 uF for a standard type B. No tap change then? I'll have to check my parts bin... homemadeheresy
I'm getting ready to try my luck at a set of Cornscalas. I'm wondering if any has tried the above crossover with and without the 68uf capacitor in the woofer unit? Is there any marked improvement in sound with it in there? And what purpose does it have??
