hififreq
Hi all! I'm restoring a pair of La Scala's, and I've got them all ready for veneer now. I've worked with solid veneers before, and they're great, but I'm looking for something a little quicker. I just went to my local supplier, and the paper-backed veneers he has look great. Has anyone here ever applied them? Pro/cons? Thanks, Corey
DRBILL
Yes. It was a long time ago. Almost all parquetry comes that way. It is a good idea. It provides a uniform surface for the adhesive. DRBILL
klipschaholik
I suspect the paper backed will not split as readily as the solids do. I struggled with rosewood veneer splitting on my scalas. I have also recently tried using contact cement on a pair of heresys and was pleasantly surprised at how easy is was to apply. I'd be interested in hearing how your progress goes with this project. Good luck Ps Good to see your still around Dr. Bill, former Alex. residents
hififreq
I think I'll have a chance to do them this coming weekend. Looks like paper-backed Zebrawood is the winner! I was going to do Honduran Rosewood, but my wife saw the Zebrawood and flipped. Gotta give her what she wants......I'm removing half of a closet to make them fit the room.
