Thanks for any input. JJ ------------------------------------------------------- I have an audiofile system, and I looking for a sub that will play with my RF-7s. I love the new 7s by-the-way. I think they are the best overall Klipsch speaker to date; they sound Great with tubes. I want to buy only one sub if I can get away with it. I'm not looking to shake the house. I just want to add some bottom end to improve the 3 dimensional image of my system. I know that not choosing the correct sub can result in a depletion of the stereo image, so I need some help from you guys who have experience in this subject. My main concern is sensitivity since my 7s are rated 102@1w/1m. How are subs rated, and what is concidered a correct match for my 7s? Finally, size is an issue. I would like to keep the size down as much as possible. I like the size of the Sunfire subs. Current Upset: Power Amplifer: Sonic Frontiers Power 1 (60watts/channel) Pre-amplifer: Antique Sound labs Passive Ti Source 1: CD mod from Stan Warren of Supermods Source 2: none yet (Rega turntable) Subs that interrest me: Klipsch LF-10 Klipsch RSW-10 Sunfire True II REL Strata III HSU VT-2 PS: I've heard allot of talk about the SVS subs on this board, but I'm not a fan of those. I don't like the design. I feel that it could become an eye swore in my room. Thanks for any input. Klipschguy Posted November 29, 2001 Share Posted November 29, 2001 JJ, I bought an M&K Volkswoofer off of Ebay to go with my Cornwalls and I love it - exceeded my expectations, which is rare indeed. I am running the Cornwalls full range, have the sub crossed over at its low setting, and the volume is brought up just enough to BLEND with the mains (no boomy, overpowering, "get sick of it in 1 day" bass). Interestingly, if the music has no low bass content, the sub basically does nothing - as it should be! However, if low bass is present, the sub faithfully reproduces it. The bass is full, DEEP, powerful, tight, musical and subtle (as in not overpowering). I am extremely pleased with this set up for music. Sounds fine for HT, too. Just my honest opinion. You should try to hear them all, then bring home the one(s) you think will be the best match for your RF-7s. Hopefully you can find a dealer who will let you do this. Guest BobG Posted November 30, 2001 Share Posted November 30, 2001 If you do some simple math, you'll konw that your SF amp will play your RF-7's to about 120 dB at 1 meter. That's really loud and not a typical listening level. OTOH, it does tell you that you'll need a sub which can deliver similar output or you'll never obtain a balanced sound across the dynamic spectrum. From your description, I might have suggested a REL sub, as their intent (I believe) is not to add lots of deep bass, but rather to enhance image depth and system dynamics while supporting deep bass. Unfortunately, I do not believe the REL subs can deliver the MOL (maximum output level) required to match properly with RF-7's. You may wish to look further into that brand. I can strongly suggest you check out our new RSW series subs. I have the RSW-15 with my RF-7's and the combo is great. Love it for 2 channel and for movies there is nothing better in my experience. Depending on the size of your room and it's construction and standing wave pattern, you may well be best off with a RSW-12. Let us know what you learn. I guess, that sould have been my question. Is there a smaller sub that will work, or is the RSW-15 my only option? I've heard that the HSU VTF-2 has allot of output. I realize that active subwoofer spec are'nt worth the paper that they're written on. This is what makes matching a sub so difficult. Musically, however... it's a bit lacking-- unfortunately. You might check out the Wicked One at Decware.com--dual 10s, horn loaded, furniture grade-- havent auditioned one yet, but it looks sweeet!
