g_opolis
Any of you ever get tired of lugging around thousands of pounds( ok a little over two thousand) of equipment when you move?I rejoiced in it time and again, but it's time to downsize.Eight sets of speakers ( and no lightweights I assure you), and enough components to run 6 full systems( with spares). I'll spare you any more details:) One of the soon to be departed is a set of Forte 1. I am going to run them on Ebay, but I was reallly hoping for some suggestions on shipping. I realize most of you will say don't ship, and I do wish I didn't have to. Unfortunately I live near the Mexico border, and am far from most people. I have shipped speakers in the past( 2 sets Heresies, 3 sets of Sansui's, 1 set of Cerwin AT 12's0, with all but 1 shipment going fine.No matter how well you pack, stopping a 2 foot iron bar from skewering a Heresy during shipping is impossible. The Forte's are a little heavier than the others( maybe the AT 12's coming close).I am very skilled at over- mummification, and though I don't have the original boxes, this is not a problem.I was using ups, but they are notorious ham fisted. Any recommendations on a source for good boxes( and I do double box), aside from the hunt all over town and hope. Boxed they shouldn't exceed 110 pounds each. One last thing, how much is average cost for packing materials. Seems I always get screwed on that one. I do tend to overbuild. I realize this is a bit long and rambling, any suggestions/tips would be much appreciated.TY
wuzzzer
I bought some sheets of 1" thick poly foam insulation from Home Depot to ship the RF-7 speakers I sold on eBay but fortunately I was able to deliver them an hour away and didn't have to worry about packing them up. I had planned on doubling up on the foam so that there was 2" thick all around, then double cardboard boxed. The Fortes each way about 60 pounds so I seriously doubt they'll weigh anywhere close to 110 pounds after they're boxed unless you're using steel reinforcements.
