bigdnfay
ha guys, does anyone on the bb know the specs for the k-55-v? are there any alternative mid drivers that are comparable(to k-55) and get down to 500hz? something close... been watching ebay for k-55's...none to be had lately. bigdnfay
TBrennan
The JBL 2470 was a phenolic diaphragm mid driver with a range from 500-to 8000, noted for it's nice, natural sound. Not made any more but can be found used. If you only want to go down to 500 and not 400 you can use metal diaphragm 1" drivers such as the current JBL 2426, a VERY good sounding driver. On ebay you can also look for used drivers like Altec 802, 808, 902, 908, JBL 2410, 2420, Le-175, LE-85, 2425. IME Altecs can crossover at 500 1st order (in home use), JBLs can clack and need protection of 2nd or 3rd order slopes at 500. Selenium makes some phenolic 1" mid drivers, never heard them though. Mind that EV mid drivers like the 1823 and 1824 will NOT reach the 6500hz crossover point used on K-55s. Al Klappenberger
bignfay, I would be VERY carefull what you pick to replace a K55. They MUST go up to 6000 Hz, no lower, no higher! The Klipsch crossover networks depend on this high frequency slope for the squawker / tweeter crossover. Al K.
