Technically, you would measure from the "acoustic origin" (determined from either a basic impulse response, or the derived ETC response) which may not be either of those!* And with most speakers there is an astigmatism off axis if each passband's acoustic origin was not aligned in time via a delay often incorporated in an active crossover.

I now that is not what you wanted to hear, but many need to! [:o][:o]

Practically speaking, as long as you do it from the same point on all of the speakers, the relative distance/time will be equivalent, as it is the relative differences that are important - having the direct source from each speaker arrive simultaneously. Thus, if the speakers are all same, the same point on the baffle board will work just fine and simplify the mater tremendously.

*There is of course more to this if anyone is terribly interested. [;)]
