boa12
i've been using a marantz ma6100 mono amp for my rear center until it started cutting out at higher input/output recently. seemed it had this burning smell from the start and today looked in it w/ a flashlight & the whichever transformer/solenoid part looked pretty juicy & still that burning smell. looks like plastic meltdown. i'm using a B&K ref 30 pre/pro to feed it that has a max output of 3v. the ma6100 has an input sensitivity of 1v. on the face, is the B&K too much for it or is there pretty much compatability &/or protections for most pre/pro & amp matchups??? maybe it was just a defective unit but i'm scared when i get a replacement or fixed ma6100 back, the B&K will fry it. i do have to bump up the level for it by 4 or 5db to match the other 5 speaks driven by the more powerful acurus A200X5. thanks. ------------------ My Home Systems Page This message has been edited by boa12 on 12-18-2001 at 12:56 AM
Malcolm
If the transform, solenoid, or relay fried, it doesn't have anything to do with your preamp. Get the amp fixed and enjoy!

Mike Lindsey
Yes and they look great (thanks again)! My sister helped me since she has a lot of experience with a glue gun. I took some pictures but haven't had them developed yet. Will post them in the next week or so...
