bi amping cornwall speakers

Recommended Posts

Bi-amping this speaker with a passive on the mid/hi is definitely a mixed bag (aside from the issues alluded to by Preston).

Assuming
that you are able to decide on the low/mid crossover frequency (using
the existing xover point is a good pace to start) you also have the
advantage of setting a delay to align the on-axis signal response of
the acoustic centers of the drivers in the time domain. But as you are
passively crossing over the mid/highs, I would use the mid as a
reference and align them with the woofer. The disadvantage of using the
passives is that the acoustic origin of the tweeter will not be aligned, and aside group group delay error, you will have increased comb filtering and polar anomalies in the crossover region. But at least it will be primarily above the vocal frequencies..

If
you do not have access to an impulse or ETC response where the time offset
would be directly apparent, you might inquire with Klipsch for this
data. The tweeter response is the least critical for the sake of
intelligibility and imaging (although adding a Crown D75 to drive the
tweeters along with a 3 way crossover would be nice in a tri-amped
config ;-)

Bi-amping (or ideally tri-amping and totally removing
the passive xovers) is definitely a more worthwhile investment in time
and money than spending beau coup bucks on new passive crossovers. Good
luck.

The proceedure to bi-amp a 3way is the same proceedure outlined in this pdf.

Anyone else notice that the word "Klipsch" on the face of the drawn LaScala is backwards?

Roy must have been tipsy the day he prepared that for them!! Just a little too much Blueberry juice!!
