Subwoofers and surround speakers

Can someone tell me *not up on all specific details* about the sub woofers and surrounds. I am thinking of getting a pair to start building my home theatre. The pros to each level and what can I hear to convince me of which one is better suited for me.

Thanks

Any details to look for in a Receiver and DVD player also would be great

A Home Theater system usually consists of two main speakers, a center speaker (usually designed to sit on top of TV monitor}, a sub woofer, and a pair of surrounds. Ideally they should be designed to work together so there will be a sonic match, insuring proper localization of sounds. The choice of receiver depends somewhat on the choice of speakers. So, how much do you have to spend? Do you have to have everything at once or are you willing to spend more later and build a superior system over time? How big is your room? What will the video portion of your system consist of?

soundog; justrelaxing,

justrelaxing,

like soundog suggests, your first decision is how far you want to go(cash and involvement) with your HT setup. That will determine what you purchase more than anything. What do you have now as a core system?

soundog,

I thought I had a problem,(chronic Klipsch disease), but after reviewing your system info, I feel fine now.
