dougdrake
Hi - I have a question about a symptom being exhibited by the subwoofer in my car. When it operates, I hear a buzz/vibration sound coming from the speaker itself. It's not a ground loop, and is not another piece of the car vibrating. I've removed the speaker from the box and I can hear the sound emanating directly from the speaker in sync with bass beats. What is this a symptom of - fried speaker? Thanks for the assist! mas
It sounds like it may be rubbing of the voice coil. Not a good thing.
TheEAR
Not good.....push gently the dustcap or near the center of the cone...do you hear any noise(rubing?). If yes the woofer is defective, and the friction of the VC with the motor structure will en in heat, the coating on the VC will be damage...a short will follow. Dispose if not under warranty orget it replaced if under warranty. You can always get the magnet of the frane if out of warranty...to pick up screws and as a part holder. dougdrake
Thanks, gentlemen. When I push on the dustcap, I do hear a rubbing sound. Guess it's now a garage tool! Bummer. Oh well, it's out of warranty as I got about 5 years out of it - not bad I suppose.
IDOXLR8
You see this from time to time and many times the voice coil winding have been heated up by high current and long run times and results in clearance problems, also alighnment problem from a cone or surround problem, AL.
