The K-48 Loudspeaker

Howdy All,

I'm new here. I am a hobby builder and user of pro sound. I use LMS and LEAP to do most of my work in. I've built countless number of systems. Even built a set of Speaker Lab K-Horns clones back in the 70's

I'm looking for the spec sheet on the K-48 15" to locate a 15" that would be a close cross to. Or is the K-48 still available?

Was the Pyle woofer being made for the KP-3002?

Are there any links to a library of data info?

Thanks

OB Jim

If you've got LMS, then you can just measure the raw T/S params of the driver yourself...and then you don't have to rely on the accuracy of the spec sheet.

Are you trying to find a replacement for a driver or doing a completely new build? I believe the K-48 is an eminence driver and they have all sorts of drivers with similar specs. If you're doing a new build, then I would probably try to find a woofer that does exactly what you're looking for.

Are you familiar with this website?

It's the only online database that I know of short of going to the individual manufacturers.

True and I've done it before, but it has been some time now and what is Klipsch calling a K-48 now?

Yep and Yep again

I have used the KAPPA Pro which was pretty close.
I use to have a repair station for Klipsch some years ago and towards the end I was receiving Pyle kits for re-cones. Most of the hardware eliminates look like Emenince but having worked for a number of years with DWD (loudspeaker company long gone now) we would only have a handful of companies making the component parts and we could make drivers that looked like Becker, CTS, Emenince and so on. So I was wondering if Pyle was the OEM. My KP-3002 are in use now and would be tough to do T/S on them.

By the way, does someone have one out and could post the manufacturer's date code off the back edge. It should contain the manufacture's name code.

Yep. Been there couldn't find the driver. I'll dig out my older K-48 T/S and post them.

<flashback ~~~ DWD & Sun Stereo....Audure'...>>>>records in the back>>>>

Ahhhhh! We were such a bunch of stoners then. I remember some poor guy brought his Audure' to the factory, on a Friday no-less and Becky and I were at the end of the assembly line (all beer up for happy hour and ready to go) and sat his blown DUD down in front of us. I check it and said the woofer is defective.

"OK, Fix it!"

Geezzz OK I ask Becky to gently sit on one end of the cabinet, out of the way of the woofer, and brought out the cone driver extraction tool. I then stabbed the tool (a 6' long 2 x 4 ) through the woofer into the cabinet wrenching out the woofer, part of the crossover, most of the poly insallation and half of the baffle board. I then instructed Becky to take the Audure' to the repair area and get a new 12" for his cab and install it. The guy was almost in tears when she returned. (With and brand new Audure' )

We used staples and chalky to mount the drivers so most of the time we would have to throw the away. (Dave's idea fast fast assembly). The customer didn't know that. Ahh Such fun back then. What would the Human Recourse think. Oh that's right there wasn't one then.

Sun Stereo did have the records in back!

Will I spent a this morning using a couple of search engines to locate some KP-3002 and found Google wasn't cutting it and Oodle had its own issues.

That meant a manual search of Craigslist, one city at a time. I came up with unbelievable deals on Chorus II, Heresy and alike. In all of this I found 5 sellers with pairs of KP-3002 and a pair of K-48 15" with some of them hidden down in the add like a "Oh, by the way I have a set of". Turns out I can buy another pair of KP for a little more then the cost of 1 K-48 from Klipsch Parts. I am going to continue with the T/L work and post it as soon as I've got the other pairs of KP's in.

Some of the ads were very interesting. other I wise they'd split it up a bit so I could go after to KP-2000.
