I copied this post from the High Efficiency Speaker Asylum. The only direct radiators in my otherwise "14-horns system" are the large 6-cones subwoofers that take me to 17 Hz. With a combined weight of 2,000 pounds (1 ton) in speakers alone, I guess I'm in the dynamic contrast group with a great wife.......CJ

"High efficiency speakers do a better job with dynamic contrast (which
is how musicians convey emotion) and usually do a better job with
radiation pattern consistency, which translates into more natural
timbre because the reverberant field (which plays a large role in
perceived timbre) has a more natural spectral balance.

Conventional
speakers typically dig deeper in the bass, image better, have higher
WAF, and are often smoother and/or more forgiving.

High-quality,
zero-feedback SET and OTL triode amplifiers have distortion envelopes
that are more human-hearing-mechanism friendly than what is typical of
solid state or even push-pull tube amplification.

There are probably exceptions to each of these generalities.
