Subwoofer placement

My room is about 14 feet by 14 feet. Between my sofa and wall is some space. Can I place the subwoofer there? It will be basically behind the sofa but along the wall. Well?

In theory you can place a sub anywhere as bass is non-directional.

In practise, however, you may find that is is too strong or too weak in certain room positions. Most people suggest corner placement for subs. It is difficult to know how the sub will sound in your room in the place you have identified without testing it.

If you really want to play with sub placement one way is to put the sub at your usual listening position (switched on and playing). Then walk around the room and see where you get the best bass. Wherever that place is - that is where your sub should go.

depending on how low the bass output of the sub is depends on where the best position for it will be, I have heard subs next to the couch and they sound gret there, unless they are playing upper bass (100 to 250 Hz) then they often sound better along the front wall with the main speakers since that location can add to the image and soundstage, in the corner is better for low bass, but not punchy mid-bass, which many of us like ...

I too got on the band wagon about putting a sub in a corner. I want to move my tv back closer to the wall and thus I had to move the sub from the corner to the far let beside my rf-3. The bass is much more cleaner and it seems like you can "FEEL" the bass better. Really the only thing you can do is try as many different situtations as possible. Basically you will be frustrated for a long time!!!

Okay, then will it be okay to place the SVS right next to one of the RF-7s? Since my RF-7s will be located near the wall, can I place the SVS next to one of them? Will it sound okay?

kain, no one can really answer sub placement from afar.

& we're mostly real far Smile.gif folks have dif rooms, equip, tastes. a general rule is near a corner (though maybe not right in the corner) works for most.

get the stuff & do that sub place method. that is put the sub near your sweet spot then move your person around the room to listen (i get on my hands/knees).

then place the sub as near as u can to the place it sounds best to (like maxg suggested).

no prob putting it right near an rf as long as it's not directly blocking the rf sound.
