mungkiman
A friend's father has an ancient Tandberg receiver that he loves. I know very little about it, other than it doesn't currently work on FM. He lives in Seattle, and is looking for a local repair shop, or advice of what to try himself. Thanks in advance!

mungkiman
A guy in Van Nuys has a good reputation, but we're looking for something more local to Seattle, to hopefully avoid shipping. You gonna be hiding in that dumpster, Duke? Seriosly though, is there a "rule of thumb" for available parts, based on how old it actually is? I know very little about this receiver, or Tandberg in general, and don't actually know the vintage. I could probably find out, if that, and/or a model number might make a difference in anyone's advice. Thanks.

djk
Most old Tandberg tuners use varactors in the front end, as well as obsolete ICs. Even if I could find the parts (not likely), it would not be an economical repair. eBay SAVE THE CARCASS FOR THE METAL PARTS (people will pay for them).
