bdbaba
Hey All, This might be a stupid post, but... As an experiment, I replaced my Forte center with an Epic CF3. Any of you knowledgable, big brained Klipsch folks want to chime in on why a two way CF3 (Gen 1) sounds better as a center for my Chorus (Gen 1), then a three way Forte (Gen 1)? It would seem that the Chorus and Forte would be a better match. Wouldn't the drivers in the Forte be a closer match to the Chorus? I still have not found another pair or single Chorus on island to give me a perfect match up front. However, with the CF3 up there, it does not seem like I need to anymore--still looking though!!. The CF3 definitely adds more bass to the picture. I am a bit surprised as I seem to like the clarity of a three way speaker.. I had assumed that the three way Forte would have that same clarity, but it seems that the CF3 beats it out. And please do not get me wrong--I love the Forte; no bashing here--used to have three up front before I found the Chorus. I am just surprised--happily so. Also, why is it that most people on these boards seem to like a three way speaker better then a two way speaker? It seems that I do too when it comes to the Chorus versus CF3--even though the CF3 does beat the Chorus in the bass area without doubt. Thanks, bdbaba
dougdrake
What do you mean by "sounds better?" IMO, the goal of a center speaker is to provide as close an audio match as possible to the main speakers, so that sound cues that move across the soundstage sound seamless. Second, it needs to be able to reproduce dialog as cleanly as possible, since the majority of spoken sound will come from the center. With these in mind, would you say the CF3 does a better job as a center in your scenario?
billybob
Yep, I remember you, on the island, although my brain is shrinking. Yes, refresh us, are you doing mainly music with your system? Also, maybe now you need just another Forte 1 for to have 2 rears.
bdbaba
Hey Doug, I would have to answer yes to all your points. I would have thought it would have sounded off myself, but I was wrong. Of course the Academy that is supposed to match the Chorus has completely different drivers then the Chorus as well and it sounded pretty good too--not nearly as good as the Forte or the Chorus though. Both my wife and I thought the CF3 was clearer and had better dispersion across the room.
bdbaba
Hey Billybob, Yup. I have not been posting much anymore, just listening. I am listen to a mix of stuff. Just bought a PS3 and I have been playing around with blurays and sacds. I guess I could look for another Forte and use them for rears! Of course my center has a K-Stack in it, so I would have to get another. Hmmmmm!
billybob
LOL! Alright then....I will say no more, except, a big island. Sounds like fun!
bdbaba
Hey BB, Actually we are now on Oahu. It has been interesting lately. Honolulu has been looking like LA on a bad smog day with all the VOG from the Big Island blowing over here. Pretty amazing and quite a bummer. Right now it is beautiful, though! No VOG. And I hope it does not come back! Well, off to watch some bluray! Have a great night back on the mainland!
