Gilbert
Anyone know it's purpose. Can I swap out this tube in a marantz 10B Tuner, without negatively affecting it.
jtnfoley
From: http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=6U8 Miniature type used as combined oscillator and mixer tube in color and black-and-white television receivers utilizing an intermediate frequency in the order of 40 MHz. Requires miniature 9-contact socket. What application they have in an FM tuner I'm unsure. I'm certain I have several of these, may even have Mullard and Tung-Sol. (NIB NOS, from Granddad the TV guy.) TDSL Personal Edition 1.1 says 6678, 6U8-A, CV9858, and ECF82 are substitutes with 'Different ratings or performance' and CV5065 is 'Identical or close'
crooner
The Marantz 10B uses the 6U8 in the stereo multiplex section to output the individual left and right channels. Usually this tube is a Telefunken. If the unit is working properly, I'd leave it alone. The only tubes I'd be comfortable rolling are V13, V17 and V18, which correspond to the first audio and cathode follower stages. I did try some Telefunken ECC83's and ultimately found the stock Bugle Boys to sound the best. YMMV.
