Aside from his politics and such, not only is he an excellent actor, the direction of this movie is very moving. It is based on a true story of a new college grad's aspirations of making it to Alaska to live in the wild and essentially find out his purpose in life as he sees it. the film tends to jump back and forth from present to past and starts out a bit slow, but is filmed so well. A side bonus to the movie is that Eddie Vedder did the films soundtrack entirely himself. Very good tunes in this movie.
