seti
This is one of those bands that I see clips of on youtube and wonder where have they been all my life. They remind me of the I showed the youtube clips to my gf and she said she had seen them live at a David Byrne lecture in Oakland, CA. She said that when Byrne was finished with the lecture the band emerged from the crowd and launched into a preformance in the middle of the audience. David Byrne was so enthralled he started singing and marching with the band. She said it was chaotic frantic jubilation. The band and David played for two hours marching around the large studio where the event was taking place. Apparently the band just shows up and marches into bars, clubs and art events. They try to leave before the police arrive. They are like a combination of a European street circus, Burlesque act, amped up marching band, and a large dose of Chaos with raw manic energy. I can only imagine how much sound they can fill a small room with. I mean all those horns and drums...... I gotta see them live. I would also be curious about what PWK would have thought as he did like marching bands. http://www.extra-action.com/ If you are interested try a search on youtube or check out the video on their site. I won't post here because some of it is a little racy. It is a mix of marching band and burlesque. *here is what a local reviewer thought of them* The Extra Action Marching Band is a collisionof big band and ecstatic turmoil. Despite their name they rarely march, but rather shimmy, crawl, mob and charge. Trumpets pounce like eaglesand tubas drip a$$-bouncing blurps from fat fingers. Drums shudderunder wild eyed and white knuckled drummers, and through it all windsthe flag team; glittering and sinuous creatures who masterfully pulsatepom-poms in a hypnotic fantasy. The listener is hoodwinked, soaked, andsavaged into giddy abandon.Powerful and empowering, the Extra Action Marching Band seduces thepre-civilized will. They are immediate and visceral - more of a sweatyinvitation than a show. They are a parody of idioms with shatteringvolume - guerrilla theater with the rug rolled up. Extra Action hasperformed in back alleys and at the Hollywood Bowl, they have playedBlack Sabbath in a synagogue for dancing octogenarians - but thepreferred venue is a small locked room with the heat turned up.As the sound boils into a spinning crossfire, sweat and flying hairtangle in a delicious knot. Audience and band submit together, to eachother, to the whim and fancy, to satisfaction. Irresistible.
