Thanks for the kind words! There are segments of photographers who certainly rely on post processing heavily for their final images. I tend to treat it more like a digital darkroom and keep it simple with light adjustments and b/w conversion or color tweaks. I'm certainly not a "straight out of camera" snob, but I do do try to nail my settings and not get sloppy. I'm primarily a documentarian and focus on telling narratives or capturing pockets of emotion over the course of time, such as with my girls. So that leaves me some flexibility with regards to imperfections in the final result. I'm planning to take the family on a surprise trip to the Dallas World Aquarium next Friday, so I'm sure I'll have some more to share then.

In the meantime, feel free to ping me via PM if you have any questions.

    Will do! Thx!

Thanks. I process with the RAW files (and I shoot with dual cards RAW + JPG), but will sometimes switch over to a monochrome mode if I'm having trouble visualizing how the conversion will turn out. I have these great glass sliding doors in our living room that face west and plenty of mature tree cover so it gives me some great light to play with and I generally know how the composition will turn out for certain periods of the day.

I then use Lightroom for some slight tweaking of levels and the application of a combination of presets that I've found give me a consistent B/W "look and feel" conversion for how I shoot.

I generally don't apply any further sharpening, blemish touch ups, or other corrections - I just try to frame the shot, nail focus (lots of practice since I generally shoot f/2.8 or wider), and setup the lighting contrast in a manner that I know will convert well to monochrome. I mostly shoot people and people are imperfect, so I keep that in my shots.

The other piece is a heavy handed self-imposed editorial process. I shoot much more than I share, and share only what's essential to convey the narrative of an event or the best bits of personal emotion from a portrait session. For the quick 15 minute session referenced above it lasted about 15 minutes, I took around 30 frames, and 2 were worth sharing.

Thanks for the information. I am recently getting back into photography. Having learned and shot with film, transitioning to the digital world has been interesting. I am somewhat amazed with the current reliance on editing software - And at the same time wowed with the ability to shoot 30 frames to keep two! Sounds like you are old school with the attention to detail on the setup and are able to take advantage of what digital offers in regards to having multiple images from which to choose. Again, I have admired your images on these pages for sometime and know that they don’t happen by happenstance,

That would have been cool! Everything was very last minute. We ran in Denver and found oiling issues and lost a motor. The next day, we went to Vegas for a few days and then when we got back, he had a 2-day drive back to Atlanta. From there, he needed a new motor, new clutch, and a few other things. I had plane tickets with insurance and we didn't know until the day before that it was going to be reality. The new motor had not even been tested, but was sent it anyway! It was 2 weeks between events... He extremely determined!

I do look forward to what we do in the future. I am hoping to make this my career and quit my day job. I've been tuning for probably 15 years, but only recently made it a business and feel like I am finally in a position in life to take the leap... But it would be awesome!

As always really really great photos!  Curious, do you shoot with the camera setting in black and white or do you convert in Lightroom or some other photo editing software?

There was a photo that was posted a long time ago that was supposed to be of Bradley's Barn, with Fortes (I think).

I would have to find it...

Bruce, you are correct the office was a recreation of Owen Bradley’s office. Not Fred Foster. I got my Nashville producers mixed up! I very well could have posted this a couple of years ago since that was when I visited the country music hall of fame.

It is very rare to have a vintage tube amp/receiver with the original power tubes that actually still work.

I have had three different vintage amplifiers with the original 7591 all tested great and sounded awesome. 2 Mc225s and a scott 299d

    just saying!

  7. is there something wrong with the originals? I have tried the EH coin base version and have always gone back to the original westinghouse collar based type. To me they sound considerably better. I have not tried the new collar base Tung-sols so I cannot comment on them.

  8. Fresh Lime juice. The limes should be mexican limes available around here at mexican food stores. They are sweeter than the standard lime. In a pinch a key lime will work. In a rocks glass,  tequila over ice (certainly not blended!) with a dash of triple sec or cointreau and sweeten with agave nector. You can also make them in a martini shaker just like a up martini.

  9. Cleaning out the work shop. Here are a couple of items that you can have for free. Just pay the shipping and packing.

Tung Sol TS 78 tube tester.  I bought this at a garage sale some years ago and as far as I know it works as it should. Not a fancy high end tester to be sure. I have no use for it having purchased a Hickok. Photos to follow.

Rega Planar 2 Turntable. I picked this up as a project. Having recently rebuilt a Linn LP 12 and built a Lenco based turntable, I dont have the time to mess with this. It needs some work. The motor works and the platter turns. But I think the motor housing needs to be remounted and lined up properly. Should be a pretty good turntable for someone with basic DIY skills.

Not to be a dick, but please dont send  requests for shipping to various zip codes. The tube tester is pretty light so it shouldnt overly expensive . Im sure the Rega weight and size can be found somewhere. This is the original Planar 2 not the current issue P2.

    Cheers

Awesome DAC. Now if you really want end game. Use it with the AHB2 amp.

A guitar amp tech can trouble shoot with the schematic. A quick voltage check most likely will identify the issue.

The is one big advantage of SE amps. Very simple circuitry.

Good call on the guitar amp tech. Here is a listing of techs some are in northern Florida. I would certainly want references but as panelhead indicated the moondogs are not complicated.

if you are into doing some cabinet and driver modification I would suggest finding a pair of Chorus ll, but there is another catch and that is a Chorus or Chorus ll will require a lot more power to shine (and the same is true for your Forte 3). I would not recommend the H3. The K701 mid horn is an ancient horn design and its performance is well below the mid horn in a Forte ll or Chorus ll. The level of excitement and reality the Chorus 15 inch woofer brings to the table is impressive, it is probably the most fun speaker to listen to that Klipsch built when provided with power. In your situation I would not go larger than the Chorus ll. I would place them on a fine set of Skylan stands and raise them so the centre of the mids horn is at your seated ear level (usually around a metre plus or minus) and I would pick up a used Benchmark AHB2. I have compared my AHB2 (third one in the house now) to a Spectral 200x2 (30 Kg and more than double the cost) amp and the Benchmark had more jump more impact and better bass weight and control yet it is a compact and efficient cool running amplifier. If you don't feel like doing any modification work take a look at the Bob Crites Cornscala"D" loudspeaker. You could buy the parts and a set of baffles and have the cabinets built locally. These run better horns and drivers than you are going to get in a Klipsch.

I would second the Benchmark AHB2 amp. Although you rarely see used ones for sale. I know I’ll never sell mine - I own two. Best amp I have owned by a long shot.

  13. I bought this amp out of curiosity and have to say it sounds fantastic. I bought it on ebay from a seller in china who builds these clones - as well as clones of lots of different hifi equipment.  This is great amp for klipsch or other hi efficiency speakers.  I bought it for $350.00 plus shipping. I will sell it for $200.00 plus shipping. More information and photos can be found here.  PM through the forum if you are interested.

  14. I would tend to agree with HDBR Builder in regards to going with a quality direct drive such as the SL -1100A. I believe that the direct drive tts from that era are significantly undervalued in regards to performance.

For whatever reason, the manufacturers and tt designers have focused on developing better belt drive tts and have until recently ignored direct drive and idler drive turntables. In my experience I have not heard a belt drive turntable that can match the drive and performance of a well isolated idler or direct drive. Rather than pulling the record under the cartridge they drive the platter virtually eliminating cartridge drag. It is no surprise that a number of manufacturers are offering direct drive and idler drive models.

If you have the inclination buying an idler drive lenco and using the drive components with modern motor isolation can result in a world class turntable that will outperform any belt drive - even the $20,000.00 versions.

Here is a thread of my  repurposed lenco turntable. All in - not counting the tonearm - I think the total build cost me less than a grand.

  15. I also endorse the ultrasonic approach. I put together a DIY ultrasonic set up and it works awesome. I bought the ultrasonic cleaner on ebay and used the motor unit from here

    https://thevinylstack.com/ultrasonic-cleaning/ultra-sonic-spin-record-cleaning-kit/

And the filtration set up from here

    https://www.cleanervinyl.com/micron-fluid-filtration.html

This DIY set up does virtually everything the more expensive ultrasonic cleaners do. It does however take up a lot of space.

The unit does take up a fair bit of room however which is why I have stepped up to a stand alone unit from Kirmuss Audio. I was going to put the DIY unit in the garage sale section. If you interested let me know. I will sell all of the above for a very fair price.  If you have a place to put it it is an excellent option.
